Skip's Background:

Dr. Robert “Skip” George is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician/Practitioner (CCSP), Certified Sport and Conditioning Specialist, and has a Level One Certification with the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board.

Over the course of his career he has combined chiropractic with rehabilitation and sports performance training to “bridge the gap” between these three disciplines and to help people move well and maintain function for a lifetime. He has written numerous articles on health and sport related subjects including topics that define the Functional Movement Screen and it’s relevance to training and a sports-based practice. He has also lectured to chiropractors and trainers on the Functional Movement Screen including presentations for the California Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Board of Sport Physicians. His patients include high school, college and professional athletes and he has lectured and consulted with Division One college football programs regarding the application of the FMS. Skip owns Optimum Fitness and Health in La Jolla, CA and spends as much time as he can hiking and exploring the John Muir Wilderness in the Sierra Nevada.

As Skip says, "The Functional Movement System has become one of the most integral parts of assessment and diagnosis in my practice. Every athlete or individual starting an exercise program receives a Functional Movement Screen. For every patient and athlete who has an injury a Selective Functional Movement Assessment  (SFMA) is provided in addition to their musculoskeletal evaluation for a more comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. The use of the FMS and SFMA bridges that gap from injury to rehab and back to sport."

Why Skip recommends the Functional Movement Screen:

If you are a personal trainer, the use of the FMS will give you a clear picture of what your client needs and provide you with a concrete purpose for program design that is built upon a solid base of movement, stability and function. If you are a chiropractor, physical therapist, athletic trainer or medical doctor the FMS, SFMA and Y Balance test will give you a comprehensive functional diagnosis that will augment and aid your treatment plan and prescription of corrective strategies. Because of the Functional Movement System, your patients and players will return back to sport sooner and be provided with more prevention and durability against future injury while their athletic skills are enhanced by a more functional base to work from.
