» Lee Burton

Lee Burton

Dr. Lee Burton received his Bachelor Degree in Athletic Training from Appalachian State University and his Master Degree in Education with an emphasis in athletic training from Old Dominion University. Lee received his Doctorate Degree from Virginia Tech with an emphasis in Health Promotion and Wellness. He attained his Certification of Athletic Training through the National Athletic Trainer’s Association-Board of Certification and his Certification of Strength and Conditioning through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has presented on numerous sports medicine topics nationally and internationally at various sports medicine and personal training symposiums. He has authored book chapters and articles in a variety of sports medicine journals and produced instructional videos concerning functional applications for treatment, assessment and conditioning of active individuals. Lee is currently consulting with a wide variety of organizations and individuals including NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, military/government entities, as well as the Cooper and Mayo Clinics on injury prevention and performance enhancement. He is currently the program director for Athletic Training at Averett University and resides in Danville, with his wife Sally and children Sam and Ginna.

Eric D'Agati

Eric is a training consultant to many top sports teams and organizations, including the New York Football Giants & New York Islanders. He is also Owner and Program Director, One Human Performance Center, which focuses on One-on-One and Team exercise training, Client assessment and program design, Performance enhancement & injury prevention, and Post-rehabilitative conditioning. Eric’s educations includes a degree in Exercise Physiology from William Paterson University, CHEK Practitioner, Level II, Poliquin Performance Coach, Level I, National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Advanced, Performance Enhancement Specialist  (NASM), Integrated Flexibility Specialist (NASM), and Apex Body Composition Specialist. Eric has been a featured SPARQ columnist for Student Sports national magazine, as well as a regular guest on sports talk radio show The Natural. He has lectured at numerous universities and clinics including the Mayo Clinic, NJSIAA, Frank Glazier & MegaClinics football coaches clinics, and dozens of Speed & Conditioning camps. He has also been a guest SAQ Trainer at Nike Football Training Camps. Eric is the former Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for NY/NJ Juggernaut Professional Fastpitch Softball, Inventor of the Performance Progression Pyramid training system, Creator of Five Tool Training, Strength Training for Baseball & Softball, and Founder of Strong Kids, an after-school fitness program for children.


» Kyle Kiesel

Kyle Kiesel

Dr. Kiesel is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Evansville. He conducts research related to core function and functional movement testing related to athletic performance and injury prediction. He also conducts research in the use of ultrasound imaging for patients with low back pain. He serves as a consultant for professional, college, and high school sports teams. He has extensive experience teaching lecture and lab courses emphasizing core training and functional movement assessment and intervention including both the FMS and the SFMA. He has authored several articles and a book chapter on these topics. He has 12 peer-reviewed publications and presented numerous abstracts and invited speaking engagements nationally and internationally. He serves as a manuscript reviewer for 6 different peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Kiesel is engaged in patient care in orthopedics and sports at ProRehab in Evansville, Indiana where he serves as Director of Evidence-Based Practice.

Gray Cook

Gray Cook is practicing physical therapist, a orthopedic certified specialist, a certified strength and conditioning specialist and an RKC kettlebell instructor. He is the founder of Functional Movement Systems, a company that promotes the concept of movement pattern screening and assessment. His work and ideas are at the forefront of fitness, conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation. You’ll find him lecturing on these topics several weekends each month, worldwide. Gray received his graduate physical therapy education at the University of Miami School of Medicine with a research focus on orthopedics and sports rehabilitation.


» Robert Butler

Robert Butler

Robert Butler, PT, PhD received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Marietta College in 1999 and his Master of Science degree in Movement Science with a concentration in Biomechanics from Springfield College in 2001. He then received his PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware in 2005. Following his PhD study, he completed a post-doc at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before completing my DPT at the University of Evansville. Dr. Butler is currently an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Duke University and a Clinical Researcher for Duke Health Systems. His research has focused on the role of functional movement outcomes identifying and addressing movement dysfunction in reducing injury risk, improving therapeutic outcomes, and reducing the rate of joint degeneration. He is also a leading authority on how footwear effects lower extremity mechanics during running and other sporting activities. He has presented over 50 abstracts at national and international conferences and has published fifteen manuscripts in rehabilitation and biomechanical journals. Dr. Butler serves as a movement based outcomes consultant for a number of orthopedic and sports medicine groups nationally and internationally with patients ranging across the lifespan.

Mike Contreras, CSCS, Batallion Chief, Orange County Fire Authority

Michael Contreras is a Batallion Fire Chief and former Wellness and Fitness Coordinator for the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) in Irvine, California. Michael has worked for the OCFA for 21 years and held the rank of Firefighter, Firefighter Paramedic and Fire Captain. Michael has held the positions of Safety Officer, Hazardous Material Specialist, Assistant Public Information Officer and is member of the OCFA’s USAR team. Michael has worked extensively in the departments Training section holding the position of Training Officer, Recruit Academy Instructor, Academy Fitness Coordinator, Academy Coordinator. Michael is a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist CSCS, an ACE Certified Peer Fitness Trainer, a Crossfit Level 2 Instructor, a USA Weight Lifting Performance Coach, Crossfit Certified Olympic Lifting Coach, a Russian Kettlebell Certified Instructor, a Functional Movement Screen Instructor and a Concept II Certified Instructor.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Carla Sottovia has helped individuals achieve a path of personal wellness, improved fitness, and overall quality of life – “My goal is to instill the importance of Fitness/Wellness in client’s lives much like brushing one’s teeth, eating, and sleeping. It is also to educate clients that an individual does not need to be an athlete in order to achieve their inner strength or personal best, and ultimately they can improve their quality of life through an active life-style”. Dr. Sottovia is a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She received a B.S. in Physical Education from the State University of Brockport, NY (1985); followed by an M.A. in Exercise Physiology from San Jose State University, CA (1990), and her Doctorate in Exercise Physiology from Texas Woman’s University, TX (2002). She holds several advanced personal training certifications in the areas of Functional Movement training & Assessments, Pilates Training, Optimal Flexibility, Vibration Training, Post-injury/Preventive exercise intervention; youth training; sports specific coaching (Running, Swimming & Triathlon). She is also a licensed Wellness Coach and Adjunct instructor (The Cooper Institute) in addition to be the official instructor/representative of the FMS System in Brazil. Dr. Sottovia is an avid triathlete/runner having completed more than 50 triathlons including 3 Ironman Distance Triathlons (Hawaii, Germany, Brazil). She holds a PR of 3hrs. 26 min (Boston Marathon).  She is also a published author – Energy Substrate:Truths and Misconceptions, 06”.

Dr. Phil Plisky

Dr. Plisky is the Vice President of Clinical Excellence and the Residency Program Director at ProRehab, PC and Assistant Professor at the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN. He specializes in sports and orthopedic rehabilitation, with emphasis on injury prevention in athletes. He received his Master of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Evansville and his Doctor of Science Degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Dr. Plisky has also developed the Y Balance Test - a reliable and efficient device and protocol to measure performance on the Star Excursion Balance Test.

Behnad Honarbakhsh is a practicing physical therapist and strength and conditioning coach having worked at several sports therapy clinics in British Columbia, Canada, and the National Sports Institute in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was a program coordinator and consultant at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) School of Human Kinetics as well as UBC's Varsity Athletics. Behnad continues to consult with various sport teams and individual athletes at all levels, including national and professional level athletes. Behnad graduated from UBC with a Master of Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics in Exercise Science. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, has completed a graduate certificate in Orthopedic Manual Therapy at Curtin University (Perth, Australia), certified through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute, and trained in Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) through the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain. Behnad is currently pursuing training in the field of traditional Osteopathy at the Canadian College of Osteopathy. Behnad is passionate about teaching and continues to combine his diverse clinical skills and years of experience with lecturing in the fields of rehabilitation, injury prevention and performance enhancement. Behnad has a special interest in movement assessment and training and has been involved with the Functional Movement Screen system since 2001. He is an instructor for both the FMS and SFMA courses.

Jason Green

Jason is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Medicine.  As an undergraduate at the U of M, he spent 3 years with the Men's Athletic Department as a student athletic trainer, where he worked with the Football, Track and Field, Cross Country, Golf and Tennis teams. Since graduating, Jason has worked as a Personal Trainer specializing in Corrective Exercise, Golf Conditioning, Sports Specific Enhancement, Injury Management, and Rehabilitation. He has extensive experience working with back problems, as well as knee and shoulder maladies. Since founding CES in 2000 Jason continues to pursue cutting edge training therapy to enable his facility to be one of the premiere facilities in the country.

Mark is the Chief Instructor of Kettlebells Los Angeles, having been trained personally by RKC founder Pavel Tsatsouline. As an RKC Team Leader level instructor and doctorate in Chinese medicine and acupuncture, he has made extensive use of kettlebells with Gray Cook’s Functional Movement technologies for rehabilitation in his Chinese orthopedics clinic in Santa Monica, California. Mark’s extensive background in martial arts has helped him understand the importance of and the need for effective, safe training methods early on.

Mark Snow

Mark was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He got into sports medicine while playing college football at Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University). He previously worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Stanford University and Minor League Athletic Trainer with the Chicago White Sox. Mark is currently the co-owner (along with his wife, Nikki Snow) of SG Human Performance in Omaha, NE. SG Human Performance specializes in group fitness classes and semi private personal training. Mark is also teaching part time at Midland University.

Joe Sansalone is the Owner of Optimum Performance Training Institute (OPTI) located in Columbia, Maryland outside of the Baltimore/DC area specializing in injury reduction, sports performance enhancement and functional strength and conditioning. Joe holds certifications through the ACSM, NSCA, USAW-1, RKC-2, CK-FMS, FMS and ACE.  Joe has received high-level specialty education in injury reduction strategies and performance enhancement training from Athletes Performance Institute in Scottsdale, AZ.  In addition, he attends several continuing education courses to provide current and credible information in the industry to his athletes, clients and staff.

Mike currently serves as Human Performance and Rehabilitation Program Manager for Naval Special Warfare Group 4. During his work with the Naval Special Warfare population, Mike identifies current trends in human performance programming and works collaboratively with the operators and leadership in improving performance and reducing the incidence and severity of musculoskeletal injury. Mike develops and implements the performance-training program for the Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewmen (SWCC) community and oversees their programs at Norfolk, VA, Stennis, MS, and Coronado, CA. Mike has an extensive background in functional performance training and analysis. He has authored and served as a presenter/panelist for the Journal of Special Operations Medicine publications and conferences.

Diane Vives is the Owner/Director of Vives Training Systems and Fit4Austin that currently provides training services focused on small group training for all levels of athletes and develops programs for sports teams with an emphasis in reducing injury risk in athletes. Vives also provides a mentorship program based in Austin, TX where she assists fitness professionals in creating a long-term career path through training education, professional development, and building a network of partners to support long-term business growth.  She created the SMARTsets dvd series which is an integration system using purpose-driven programming with focused programming for small group and group training, as well as Training the Female Athlete dvd that highlights exercise selection based on targeting common strength and functional movement needs of today’s developing female athlete. She has also co-authored Training for Speed, Agility and Quickness, as well as Developing Speed published by Human Kinetics. Vives has presented workshops and lectures for sports and fitness organizations around the world. She also has served on the Board of Directors for the NSCA and reinstated the NSCA Women’s Committee in 2007 that focuses on promoting research involving female athletes, supporting mentorship opportunities and creating a network of female professionals to promote positive leadership in the sports and fitness industries. As a strength coach as well as a personal trainer, Vives brings great insight to integrating the FMS into different environments and assisting professionals in building successful programs and strategies.  Her experience with FMS for the last 7 years allows her to share passion for teaching ways to effectively impact functional movement and provide insight for successfully integrating FMS into different training environments.

Remigiusz Rzepka

Remik is a licensed physical therapist and performance specialist. He manages Fizjofit, a physical therapy and performance center in Gliwice, Poland. His experience includes working with athletes at various levels from youth up to national-level athletes. He has been involved in working with soccer, volleyball and handball national teams. Currently he supervises a major league soccer team as well as youth soccer and basketball teams. For the past five years, he has been involved in promoting the latest trends of functional training, injury prevention programs, rehabilitation and testing standards in team sports. Remik is also a part-time teacher at the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice.
