Dr. Todd Arnold MD

Todd Arnold MD is a sports medicine physician practicing in Indianapolis, In. Todd has been working with the SFMA team since the early 2000s when a conversation with Gray shined a language on the way he thought about his athletes. Over the last decade he has applied the SFMA to athletes of all levels ranging from scholastic to Olympians. Todd serves as the team physician for the Indianapolis Indians (AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) and served as a consultant to the Indianapolis Colts for more than a decade. As a sports performance scientist on the staff for USA Track and Field he has spent years looking at the movement patterns of the worlds elite track and field athletes preparing them for the Olympics games.

Dr. Lee Burton PhD, ATC, CSCS

FMS Co-Founder Dr. Lee Burton received his Bachelor Degree in Athletic Training from Appalachian State University and his Master Degree in Education with an emphasis in athletic training from Old Dominion University. Lee received his Doctorate Degree from Virginia Tech with an emphasis in Health Promotion and Wellness. He attained his Certification of Athletic Training through the NATA-BOC and his Certification of Strength and Conditioning through the NSCA. He has presented internationally on numerous sports medicine topics. Additionally, Lee has authored book chapters and articles in a variety of sports medicine journals and produced instructional videos concerning functional applications for treatment, assessment and conditioning of active individuals. Lee is consults with a wide variety of organizations and individuals including NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, military/government entities, as well as the Cooper and Mayo Clinics on injury prevention and performance enhancement.

» Dr. Robert Butler PT, PhD

Dr. Robert Butler PT, PhD

Robert Butler, PT, PhD received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Marietta College in 1999 and his Master of Science degree in Movement Science with a concentration in Biomechanics from Springfield College in 2001. He then received his PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware in 2005. Following his PhD study, he completed a post-doc at UNC-Chapel Hill before completing his DPT at the University of Evansville. Dr. Butler is currently an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Duke University and a Clinical Researcher for Duke Health Systems. He is also a leading authority on how footwear effects lower extremity mechanics during running and other sporting activities. He has presented over 50 abstracts at national and international conferences and has published fifteen manuscripts in rehabilitation and biomechanical journals. Dr. Butler serves as a movement based outcomes consultant for a number of orthopedic and sports medicine groups nationally and internationally with patients ranging across the lifespan.

Mark Cheng L.Ac., PhD

Mark is the Chief Instructor of Kettlebells Los Angeles, having been trained personally by RKC founder Pavel Tsatsouline. As an RKC Team Leader level instructor and doctorate in Chinese medicine and acupuncture, he has made extensive use of kettlebells with Gray Cook’s Functional Movement technologies for rehabilitation in his Chinese orthopedics clinic in Santa Monica, California. Mark’s extensive background in martial arts has helped him understand the importance of and the need for effective, safe training methods early on.

Gray Cook is practicing physical therapist, a orthopedic certified specialist, a certified strength and conditioning specialist and an RKC kettlebell instructor. He is the founder of Functional Movement Systems, a company that promotes the concept of movement pattern screening and assessment. His work and ideas are at the forefront of fitness, conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation. You’ll find him lecturing on these topics several weekends each month, worldwide. Gray received his graduate physical therapy education at the University of Miami School of Medicine with a research focus on orthopedics and sports rehabilitation.

Eric is the former Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for NY/NJ Juggernaut Professional Fastpitch Softball, Inventor of the Performance Progression Pyramid training system, Creator of Five Tool Training, Strength Training for Baseball & Softball, and Founder of Strong Kids, an after-school fitness program for children.

Michele Desser ATC

Michele Desser is a Certified Athletic Trainer for the National Athletic Trainers Association. She comes from a strong background of injury prevention, rehabilitation, movement assessment and performance training. Her expertise in the areas of Junior’s, Movement Assessment and Correction, Strength Development, Speed Development and Golf Training allows her to help her clients achieve optimal mobility and stability patterns of movement. She has served as the training and movement assessment practitioner for the TPI Experience Team at the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, CA. Michele received her Athletic Training education at the University at Buffalo.

Jason Green

Jason is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Medicine.  As an undergraduate at the U of M, he spent 3 years with the Men's Athletic Department as a student athletic trainer, where he worked with the Football, Track and Field, Cross Country, Golf and Tennis teams. Since graduating, Jason has worked as a Personal Trainer specializing in Corrective Exercise, Golf Conditioning, Sports Specific Enhancement, Injury Management, and Rehabilitation. He has extensive experience working with back problems, as well as knee and shoulder maladies. Since founding CES in 2000 Jason continues to pursue cutting edge training therapy to enable his facility to be one of the premiere facilities in the country.

» Dr. Kyle Kiesel PT, PhD

Dr. Kyle Kiesel PT, PhD

Dr. Kiesel is a Professor and Chair of the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Evansville. His areas of research include motor control of the core and functional movement testing and training. Because of his long-standing interest in athletic performance, injury prediction and recovery, his research has also led to significant work related to functional movement screening, testing and assessment for athletes. He has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents his work nationally and internationally as well as reviewing manuscripts for a variety of journals. He serves as a consultant for professional and college sports teams as well as the military where he assists with injury prevention and implementation of the functional movement systems model. He has extensive experience teaching lecture and lab courses emphasizing core training and functional movement assessment and intervention including both the FMS and the SFMA. He contributed his expertise related to the SFMA, FMS research, and the adverse affects of pain on motor control to the book, “Movement”. Dr. Kiesel is engaged in patient care in orthopedics and sports at ProRehab PC in Evansville, Indiana.

Ben Kim

The first FMS Level 1 Certified and FMS Level 2 educated professional in South Korea, Ben Kim has been the pioneer in bringing the FMS program into South Korea as the Chief Executive Officer of COREFIT. Till now, Ben Kim has gained rich experience through his work for the biggest fitness gym in South Korea for four years as Manager and has ten years under his belt as a personal training instructor. On top of that, he has been contributing actively to various fitness columns in an effort to harness the media to introduce effective fitness programs. Professionally, Ben Kim also frequently appears on Health TV and in various commercials as a fitness model/advisor. Currently Ben Kim manages a CrossFit gym located in Seoul.

Dr. Lehr currently holds an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor at Lebanon Valley College's doctoral physical therapy program. Dr. Plisky is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and Sports Residency Program Director at the University of Evansville and ProRehab, where he practices as a physical therapist. He also serves as a consultant for collegiate, professional, industrial, and soldier athletes to transform their performance and injury prevention systems. He is passionate about changing lives by optimizing performance and preventing injury using a practical, researched based approach to musculoskeletal health. He received his Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Evansville and his Doctor of Science degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, a Certified Athletic Trainer, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He developed the Y Balance Test - a simple yet thoroughly researched way to identify motor control deficits. Greg Rose is a board certified Doctor of Chiropractic and holds an undergraduate degree in Engineering from the University of Maryland. Greg specializes in 3-D biomechanics, strength and conditioning, manual therapy, rehabilitation, nutritional supplementation and therapeutic exercises as they relate to golf. Greg is the co-host of the Golf Fitness Academy and a co-founder of the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, California. Greg is also a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner and a Fellow in the International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture. Utilizing his background in engineering combined with his expertise on the human body, Greg has helped pioneer the field of analyzing computerized 3-Dimensional motion capture models of the golf swing.

Remik is a licensed physical therapist and performance specialist. He manages Fizjofit, a physical therapy and performance center in Gliwice, Poland. His experience includes working with athletes at various levels from youth up to national-level athletes. He has been involved in working with soccer, volleyball and handball national teams. Currently he supervises a major league soccer team as well as youth soccer and basketball teams. For the past five years, he has been involved in promoting the latest trends of functional training, injury prevention programs, rehabilitation and testing standards in team sports. Remik is also a part-time teacher at the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice.

Dr. Josh Satterlee of Bio- Mechanics of Las Vegas is a Board Certified Chiropractic Physician and Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) Provider. He specializes in strength and conditioning, rehab, and functional movement and diagnoses. Dr. Satterlee has vast experience in resolving injuries and dysfunctions that occur in rotational athletes, especially golfers. As a Biomechanics major from Montana State University, Dr. Satterlee continues his education in functional movement with a certification in Selective Functional Movement Assessment (S.F.M.A.) and as a Titleist Performance Institute (T.P.I) Certified Golf Fitness Instructor.

Robyn earned her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University and is the Director of Sports Physical Therapy Services at The Center for Physical Rehabilitation in Grand Rapids, MI. She became Board Certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) in 2003. She received the Emerging Leader Award in 2007 from the APTA and is active in the SPTS section and serves on the membership committee. She is actively involved in treating orthopedic patients of all ages and specializes in the running athlete. Robyn is actively involved in the clinic and community in providing education regarding running injury prevention and performing gait analysis. Robyn has lectured in the community and internationally on topics of gait, injury prevention, and ACL injuries in the female athlete. She has co-authored a book chapter titled The Physically active female and a homestudy course Spondylolysis and Spondylolisthesis in Sports. She currently teaches continuing education for the North American Sports Medicine Institute.

Mark was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He got into sports medicine while playing college football at Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University). He previously worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Stanford University and Minor League Athletic Trainer with the Chicago White Sox. Mark is currently the co-owner (along with his wife, Nikki Snow) of SG Human Performance in Omaha, NE. SG Human Performance specializes in group fitness classes and semi private personal training. Mark is also teaching part time at Midland University.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Carla Sottovia has helped individuals achieve a path of personal wellness, improved fitness, and overall quality of life. Dr. Sottovia is a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She received a B.S. in Physical Education from the State University of Brockport, NY (1985); followed by an M.A. in Exercise Physiology from San Jose State University, CA (1990), and her Doctorate in Exercise Physiology from Texas Woman’s University, TX (2002). She holds multiple advanced personal training certifications in the areas of functional movement training & assessments, post-injury/preventive exercise intervention, youth training, and sports specific coaching. She is also a licensed Wellness Coach and Adjunct instructor at the The Cooper Institute. Carla serves as the official instructor/representative of the FMS in Brazil.

Jon Torine spent 17 years as a strength and conditioning coach in the NFL, where he handled all facets of the strength and conditioning program and was part of the medical management team. In addition to S&C, his duties included team nutrition and hydration, team circadian rhythm management, building an intern program, assistance with college and free agent evaluations, and working closely with the rehabilitation and physical therapy staff in return to play efforts.  During this time, he used the Functional Movement Screen to help guide his training decisions­.  His experience using the FMS in a high-level group situation is broad and his expertise in working with elite athletes is noted.

Diane Vives is the Owner/Director of Vives Training Systems and Fit4Austin that currently provides training services focused on small group training for all levels of athletes and develops programs for sports teams with an emphasis in reducing injury risk in athletes. She has co-authored Training for Speed, Agility and Quickness, as well as Developing Speed published by Human Kinetics. Vives has presented workshops and lectures for sports and fitness organizations around the world and also has served on the Board of Directors for the NSCA. Vives brings great insight to integrating the FMS into different environments and assisting professionals in building successful programs and strategies. Her experience with FMS for the last 7 years allows her to share passion for teaching ways to effectively impact functional movement and provide insight for successfully integrating FMS into different training environments.

Dr. Michael Voight has had a distinguished career as both an educator and clinical physical therapist for over 25 years. Presently, Dr. Voight is a tenured professor with Belmont University''s School of Physical Therapy in Nashville, TN. In addition to working in academia, Dr. Voight also is recognized as a clinician of the highest caliber, and has worked with a number of high-profile athletic organizations. Throughout his career, Dr. Voight has consulted with various teams in MLB, NHL, and the MLS. Early in his career he became active within the United States Olympic Committee''s Sports medicine Division. He has worked at the Olympic Training Center, Olympic Festivals, Pan Am Games, Olympic Games, and has had the opportunity to travel to almost all of the different continents with various Olympic and national teams. Most recently, Dr. Voight has worked with the Medical Commission for FIFA (the International governing body for soccer) and the Professional Golf Association His role with the advisory board of the Titleist Performance Institute allows him to consult on the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of golf injuries with many noted golf professionals.

Daniele Barbieri

Daniele graduated at Anglo-European Chiropractic College, and is an expert in various methods of training. In 2006 Daniele opened up a clinic with gym facilities in the centre of Rome, Italy and is now part of a fantastic team of Chiropractors, Physio, Trainers and Strength Coaches that uses the Function Movement System notions to communicate on the progress of our clients/patients. The clinic works following the backbone that the FMS gives the different professionals with the aim of restoring proper fundamental movement and human function. Our enthusiasm in our work pushes us to involve other colleagues in joining the FMS community every day and it drove Daniele towards becoming the first Italian Instructor with already several courses given throughout Italy.

Lindsay is the Owner and Director of Performance at Buckeye Performance Golf in Columbus, Ohio. Lindsay graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University after completing her undergraduate work in Medical Dietetics at The Ohio State University. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy specializing in movement evaluation and correction. Lindsay is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and Titleist Performance Institute certified medical practitioner and instructor. Lindsay has worked with athletes across the lifespan including juniors, weekend warriors, collegiate and Olympic athletes, and professional athletes from PGA & LPGA Tours, NFL, NBA, and NHL.

Lisa Chase is the founder and owner of Back 2 Normal Wellness & Rehabilitation Center and co-owner of Rehab Links. She is an internationally recognized physical therapist, educator, lecturer and published author with a specialty in rehabilitation and wellness. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 and completed a post-graduate certification in advanced orthopedic manual therapy in 1995. She is Polestar Pilates trained, Certified Kinesio Tape Practitioner and Certified MELT Instructor. Lisa is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Michigan State University, in the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Assistant Instructor for SFMA and FMS Systems since 2010

Since graduating from Coventry University, Stuart has developed a clinical focus on injury prevention and screening. In his previous role as a First Team Physiotherapist with West Bromwich Albion Football Club, Stuart was part of a leading sports medicine department, priding themselves on player availability and career longevity. Stuart pioneered a process of functional screening to the club to fully appraise a players physical status, identifying assets and risks neuro-musculoskeletally in full time athletes.

» Brandon Hetzler

Brandon Hetzler

Brandon is a certified athletic trainer for Mercy Health Systems in Springfield Missouri. He manages the HealthTracks Sports Performance/Sports Medicine facility where the collaborative focus is on the complete care of pediatric / adolescent athletes. Brandon received his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine from Missouri State University and his Master’s Degree in Human Performance from Oklahoma State University. Brandon was instrumental in the design of the MSU Masters of Athletic Training program, and continues utilize it. Brandon is a co-founder of both the Movement Restoration Project and the Athletic Development Institute and leads workshops that educate individuals in the philosophy and techniques of both. Brandon also serves as a Team Leader for StrongFirst.

Kyle Matsel

Dr. Kyle Matsel received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Evansville. He has completed the 15-month ProRehab/University of Evansville Sports Physical Therapy residency program. Dr. Matsel is a board certified Sports Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Kyle specializes in sport and orthopedic rehabilitation with an emphasis in injury prediction and prevention in athletes. Dr. Matsel continues to be involved the Sports Residency Program as a curriculum committee member and actively mentors current sports residents. Kyle is engaged in patient care working for ProRehab in incennes, Indiana as a full time physical therapist.

Mat Moore

Mat earned his Masters of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine, FL and is the owner of Physical Edge, Inc., a physical therapy and fitness center in Davis, CA. He has extensive advanced training in orthopedic manual therapy. Mat participated in the first SFMA internship and has been an instructor for Functional Movement Systems since 2009. He specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation, spine care, injury prevention and movement assessment and correction. Mat works with his community by providing educational talks, movement screens and organized programs to various groups, including local sports teams as well as the City of Davis, Fire department. In addition, Mat is a clinical instructor for several doctorate programs in physical therapy throughout California.

Eberhard Schlömmer is a graduate sport scientist and started his career in sport rehabilitation 15 years ago. Eberhard also began to focus on injury prevention working as Personal Trainer and Athletic and Strength Coach. As international presenter for different sports associations and leading companies in sports industry he has been imparting his profound background, gained by working with clients, as well as by his ongoing studies of training methods. Eberhard is the master trainer for Functional Movement Systems in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Emmanuel Spies

Emmanuel Spies is a Belgian Physical Therapist who specializes in sports rehabilitation. He has developed skills in manual therapy, functional screening and training, strength and conditioning and motion analysis in several sports such as golf and tennis. He has worked with some of the best female tennis players in the world including former n°1 Justine Henin. Emmanuel also lecturers for one of the main Belgian University – the Université Catholique de Louvain - and is a lead presenter for TPI in France.

Aline Thompson obtained her B.A in biology from Kenyon College in 1994 and Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1997. Over the last 17 years, Aline has worked exclusively in outpatient orthopedics seeing a wide variety of patients. She started her professional career in California and has spent the last 8 years working in Denver. Aline is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the APTA. She blends her knowledge of functional movement with a diverse and contemporary approach to the evaluation and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal dysfunction. She has advanced training in manual therapy, pain science, dry needling, treatment of orthopedic injuries, and breathing pattern disorders.

Alan Tomcyzkowski

Alan is a graduate from Sacred Heart University where he obtained his Bachelors degree in Human Movement & Exercise physiology before going on to his post graduate work and doctoral degree in physical therapy. He has since gone on to become board certified as a Sport Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association in addition to his certifications as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and Hardstyle Kettlebell instructor. His current practice is located in Raleigh North Carolina at Triangle Orthopedics and D1 Sports Training and Therapy in Brier Creek. He works regularly with high school, collegiate and professional athletes including MLB, NFL, NHL and PGA.

Anthony Vittese

Anthony currently practices as an outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine physical therapist. In his clinical practice, Anthony treats a patient population that extends from professional athletes to active young adolescents. Anthony received his strength and conditioning specialist(CSCS) certification from the NSCA in 2003, a year prior to graduating with his master’s degree in PhysicalTherapy from Quinnipiac University in 2004.

Ellora Weston

Ellora Weston is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. She has full body certification in, and is an instructor for Active Release Technique. Ellora is also certified in the Graston Technique, Kinesiology Taping, and TRX. Ellora graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University. She competed her Master of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of California San Francisco and San Francisco State University and received her Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her research in the field has included Total Hip Arthroplasty Anterior Approach (DPT), Classification of Cervical Spine Disorders (MSPT), and the Effects of Musical Practice on Neuronal Structures (BA).

Jimmy Yuan

Dr. Jimmy Yuan is a practicing Chiropractor in Phoenix, Arizona for Warrior Restoration. He also currently serves as a consultant for the Arizona Diamondbacks training staff along with other sports teams. In addition to FMS/SFMA, Jimmy is also an Active Release Techniques (ART) presenting instructor, StrongFirst Level 2 Kettlebell – Barbell – and Bodyweight Instructor, and Titleist Performance Institute Medical 3 – Fitness 3 – and Juniors 2.

» Eric Lazar

Eric Lazar

Eric received his Master of Science degree in physical therapy from the University of California, San Francisco. He received extensive training in the Australian approach to manual therapy, as well as sports medicine. He practiced for nearly 10 years in orthopedic and hospital based care in the U.S., and later moved to Spain, where he has been teaching in both a physiotherapy undergraduate program, and a chiropractic school in the Madrid area. He is currently incorporating concepts and practice of Functional Movement Systems into the physiotherapy and chiropractic programs and clinics at both schools.

» Greg Dea

Greg Dea

Greg is an Australian Sports Physiotherapist who completed a Bachelor of Science (1996) and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne in 1999, competing for the university as a track sprinter. As a consultant clinician and injury prevention advisor to the Australian and British Defense Forces in Australia and Europe, Greg refined tactical and sporting injury management. To transition to national and international level sports physiotherapy, Greg completed a Masters degree in Sports Physiotherapy out of Latrobe University in 2008. He worked full time in football for 2 years before being recruited to the position of Sports Medicine Coordinator at the Northern Territory Institute of Sport in Darwin, Australia. Greg's experience in this and other roles, as well as training in the Functional Movement Screen and Selective Functional Movement Assessment, was seen as an asset in international sport, so he was recruited, in 2014, to head the Performance Physical Therapy service for EXOS at the Shanghai Research Institute of Sports Science, Shanghai, China. In 2015, he was recalled to China to help manage the China Women's Volleyball team as they prepared for the 2015 World Grand Prix tournaments, culminating in victory at the 2015 FIVB World Cup. He returned to Australia for a short break in 2016 and is currently practicing out of the tropical north of Australia before embarking on future international sports duties.
